LV power capacitors are circuit elements which compensate the inductive reactive loads on a system. Distortive effects occur when the capacitors are connected to the reactive power compensation system. These distortive effects arise from the transient currents which are drawn when the capacitors have connected to the system. The inrush current of the connected capacitor decrease the operating lives of both itself and the other connected capacitors significantly. The most appropriate method to eliminate these downsides is to use the compensation capacitors with compensation contactors.
